A drying phase is an essential part of chemical manufacturing processes. Humidity measurement plays a key role in ensuring consistent product quality and optimizing production costs. For the highest possible efficiency, the relative humidity (and equilibrium relative humidity) is usually measured in the exhaust air of driers with the aim of improving throughput and/or reducing the energy costs in chemical production.
Humidity measurement is, however, also of decisive importance in the control of raw materials and final products. Normally the relative humidity is measured in the air space of the silo above the stored product. To determine the quality of single chemical samples, it is important to measure the water activity or equilibrium relative humidity. The samples that need to be analyzed are usually in the form of granules, powder, dust or paste.
