Incubators are used within various industries such as the pharmaceutical and biotech. In this case we will look into the microbiology science field.
Microbiology focuses on microorganisms such as bacteria, unicellular organisms and viruses. Inoculation is the study of introducing microorganisms into environments where they will grow and reproduce. This is known as cell culture or microbiological culture.
There are various type of media used for inoculation. Agar plates are the most common medium which are used for growing bacteria and other microorganisms. An agar plate is a petri dish containing agar plus nutrients. Basal Medium Eagle (BME) is a widely used synthetic basal medium for supporting the growth of many different mammalian cells.
An incubator is the apparatus in which media inoculated with microorganisms are cultivated under optimised controlled conditions:
- Relative Humidity
- CO2 (pH value)
- O2 (hypoxic conditions)
In many cases, the incubator should be controlled at 37°C, 95…98%rh (non condensing) and 5%CO2. With the Rotronic Monitoring System, integrate incubator monitoring into your environmental monitoring system with the following products:
RMS ADVANTAGES AT A GLANCE
Various companies provide incubators such as Adolf Huhner AG, Binder GmbH, Fischer Scientific, Memmert… Normally the incubators will have an optional analogue output so that the incubator readings can processed. RMS offers analog to digital converters to integrate the outputs into RMS. Via the Application Programming Interface (API) of RMS as well as the AtmoWEB Software from Memmert, RMS can also monitor the following points directly from your Memmert chamber:
- TempSet: Temperature setpoint
- Temp1Read: Temperature reading probe 1.
- Temp2Read: Temperature reading probe 2.
- Temp3Read: Temperature reading probe 3.
- Temp4Read: Temperature reading probe 4.
- HumSet: Relative humidity setpoint.
- HumRead: Relative humidity reading
- CO2Set: CO2 setpoint
- CO2Read: CO2 reading
- O2Set: O2 setpoint
- O2Read: O2 reading
- DoorOpen: Door status open/closed
THE ROTRONIC MONITORING SYSTEM SOLUTION
The Rotronic Monitoring System (RMS) is a GAMP©5 category 4 software combined with category 1 hardware, helping users monitor their GxP compliant applications, looking into the critical quality attributes and monitoring critical process parameters, helping focus on patient safety, product quality and data integrity and compliant to EudraLex Annex 11 and FDA 21 CFR Part 11.
The CCA-S-20X is an analog probe with NDIR technology for measurement of carbon dioxide (CO2) for incubators. Developed with a pyroelectric infrared detector with dual temperature compensation and an integrated semiconductor temperature sensor to maximize accuracy and minimize drift. The signal is converted to 4...20 mA by the converter with power supply (CCA-S-20X-SET).Learn More
