History

Hans Speglitz founds the Rotronic AG in Zurich and starts trading in components. After a short time, Rotronic is able to take over the Swiss representation of Schroff, the renowned manufacturer of 19" assembly racks in Straubenhardt, Germany.

A chemist working in the paper industry designs a sensor for measuring humidity and temperature, the associated electronics being developed by Rotronic in-house. This symbiosis is perfect – sensor and electronics merge into the first in-house products, forming the traditional line of business: "Humidity and Temperature Measurement."

Founding of Rotronic Messgeräte GmbH in Ettlingen, Germany. This is the start of the first subsidiary outside Switzerland, and markets humidity and temperature measuring devices manufactured in Switzerland.

In order to open up the great potential of the American market in the area of humidity and temperature measurement, the Rotronic Instrument Corporation is founded near New York.

Rotronic creates a further business base with the marketing of IT accessories. The Rotronic Co. Ltd. is founded in Taiwan to procure trading products in the Far East.

After evaluation of several business models, the Secomp Electronic Components GmbH is founded in Ettlingen in Baden. The company puts all its stakes in computer accessories, specialises in the marketing of IT accessories, and within a short time Secomp is one of the leading suppliers in this sector.

In the same year, a further subsidiary is founded in Great Britain: Rotronic Instruments is officially opened.

Rotronic AG, hitherto located in Zurich, moves to new premises in Bassersdorf.

The German industrialist family Schroff takes over the majority share of Rotronic AG.

In order to strengthen the trade with IT accessories and to simplify marketing, Rotronic Logistics (since 1.6.2015 Secomp International) is created. Rotronic Logistics imports computer accessories from Asia and offers them worldwide.

Founding of Secomp France.

Rotronic has its own subsidiary near Paris.

Rotronic does not want to ignore this booming market, and opens its own Representative Office in Shanghai.

The Rotronic Group crosses the 100 million boundary in turnover for the first time.

A milestone in humidity and temperature measurement. The new HygroClip2 blazes a trail that was inconceivable until recently: the engineers have built the powerful AirChip3000 into the sensor, which can communicate with any system.
The HygroClip2 is regarded as the most attractive sensor on the market, and is unrivalled in quality and longevity.

With the foundation of Rotronic Italia S.r.l., Rotronic intends to serve an important market more efficiently and more directly with their own branch office. The kick-off takes place on the 1st of June, 2010 in Milan.

Rotronic has ambitious plans. “We have already reached a comfortable position in South-East Asia with our strong distribution partner in the past years. And we expect further excellent possibilities for development on the booming South-East Asian market from our decision to open our own subsidiary,” said Gary Gähwiler, member of the management board, at the opening of the Rotronic subsidiary in Singapore.

The existing group of companies was restructured as of January 1, 2014. Business operations are now divided between the new company ROTRONIC SECOMP AG and the old company ROTRONIC AG. The two companies work in the following fields of business:
The newly founded ROTRONIC SECOMP AG trades in IT accessories, network technology, consumer electronics and household products.
The old ROTRONIC AG will continue to develop, produce and sell measurement instruments (Measurement Solutions). The unit “Industry”, i.e. trade in measurement instruments, 19” systems, UPS solutions and monitoring and security systems, will remain embedded in ROTRONIC AG.

Rotronic Canada was formed on 1 January 2015 and took over sales for the Canadian market from Rotronic USA as of 1 July. This will ensure that our leading measurment solutions can be offered locally.

Rotronic becomes a member of Process Sensing Technologies (PST); a group providing a comprehensive suite of instruments and analyzers for precision measurements. The Swiss-based trading division, covering UPS Solutions, Rack Systems, Power Supplies, and F&B solutions segments is transferred to Secomp AG.
